Heritage Cottage

The owner of the property being a well-travelled journalist, with a passion for the environment and sustainability, our priorities aligned. His charming 1870’s stone haven needed a renovation. Methodically we worked through the major areas of the home. No structural changes were made. We wanted to keep the building in its original form, plus the internal walls were stone and 600mm thick. All windows, doors, architraves, and skirts were and restored.

The bathroom had to be completely demolished. As we stripped back the paint, we found the original timbers placed above the doors. We methodically stripped the timber back and exposed them as features. Recycled timber we used for the windowsill extending around the walls acting as a function shelf. A heritage blue custom-made vanity and tiles were chosen to compliment the timber and add contract to the white hues used on the walls. Stone look porcelain floor tiles and aged brass that would continue to patina over time, were incorporated for their humble period reference.
There is a sense of luxury when entering the bathroom with its purposely placed skylight sitting directly above centre room, dramatically increasing the flood of natural light and creating an alternate connection with the surrounding environment.

The kitchen was stripped back to bare walls. The original timber bench top was repurposed into floating timber shelves. New custom-made cabinetry in heritage blue was installed. Handmade tiles, and aged brass tapware were used keeping in character with the age and period of the building.
